WHY TUTOR?

 

Never has there been so startling an achievement gap between students from affluent areas and those from underserved neighborhoods.... Read more about our history here. The recent pandemic has not made this any easier as students without access to parental or tutor support are left on the sidelines, trying to make up an ever-growing learning loss due to online classes.

 

At Reach NYC, we are looking to help change the educational landscape by providing free tutoring to students from underserved areas.

TUTOR BENEFITS

  • Gain invaluable experience in leadership and civic engagement

  • Build meaningful relationships with the families that you support

  • Receive volunteer hours - which can be applied to high school requirements or towards Presidential Service Awards and the Mayoral Service Recognition Program- something which colleges look upon fondly

YOUR ROLE

​

Tutors will be assigned student(s), based on the scheduling availability, and any specified preferences - like age of student or subject matter. Tutors will then meet with their assigned student(s) through virtual classrooms - held over Zoom or Discord - to review either homework the student has received at school or enrichment material prepared by the tutor

SUPPORT FROM REACH

Reach NYC offers tutor training and access to tutoring resources that can be utilized by the tutors during sessions.

ELIGIBILITY

​

  • Grade Range of Tutors: Freshmen - Undergraduate

  • Access to a computer + internet with capability on running online tutoring sessions through Zoom or Discord

  • 1 hour/week minimum availability
